In 1907, Pantagraph Printing & Stationery Co. published an elegant bound volume entitled, Picturesque Bloomington. The book featured a fine collection of crisp, detailed photographs of local homes, business establishments and public buildings, as well as neighborhood scenes and portraits of area residents and businessmen in Bloomington, Illinois. Pantagraph Printing & Stationery Co. has permitted Old House Society (http://www.oldhousesociety.org) to publish an updated edition of this vintage book. We hope to generate more interest and appreciation for 1907 buildings, landscapes and neighborhoods, and greater public knowledge of this fascinating, world-changing period in history.

More than 150 pages of remarkable photographs taken in and around Bloomington in 1907 will allow readers of all ages to develop a very real sense of what they would have seen in the area back then. The pictures capture architectural details and interior views, the coal mines and railroads, as well as government offices and retail establishments that helped Bloomington become prosperous and influential, along with images of men and women at work. Some landmarks are no longer around, but a great many do still exist. The 2005 edition includes updated information, an index and other details that could also make this book a useful research tool.

This new edition of Picturesque Bloomington 1907 is the first in a planned series of books featuring many photographs of historic buildings, landscapes, and neighborhoods in McLean County, Illinois. Thanks to a group of private sponsors, proceeds from the sale of Picturesque Bloomington 1907 will go to support future publishing projects of Old House Society.
